Montparnasse Tower Info

Like all major Paris landmarks, security is tight. Here is what to expect so you don't get caught out.

Security Screening

Before reaching the elevators, you will pass through airport-style security.

  • Metal Detectors: You walk through a scanner.
  • Bag Check: Bags go through an X-ray machine or are manually inspected.
  • Prohibitions: No glass bottles, no knives/weapons, no climbing gear, no large tripods (sometimes allowed, depends on the guard).

Luggage & Lockers

Critical Info: There are NO lockers or luggage storage facilities at the Montparnasse Tower visit entrance.

  • Suitcases: You cannot bring large suitcases up the elevator.
  • Storage: If you have luggage (e.g., coming from the train station), you must store it elsewhere.
  • Solution: Use luggage storage apps like Nannybag or CityLocker. There are several locations within a 5-minute walk of the Gare Montparnasse.

Food and Drink

  • You can generally bring small snacks and plastic water bottles.
  • Alcohol and glass bottles are strictly prohibited.
  • Food is available for purchase on the 56th floor.

Dress Code

There is no specific dress code for the observation deck. However, remember the 59th floor is outside and windy—bring a jacket even in summer evenings!
